One of the most exciting things about AI filmmaking is its iterative nature. In March 2024, I wrote a treatment for a story that was meant to become a new issue of OTHER WORLDS, a sequential art piece in printed magazine format. Around the same time, I composed a heavy metal track inspired by late-’80s anime opening titles and massive kaiju battle sequences. The project never truly saw the light of day and quietly sat on my hard drive. Then in June 2024, Luma AI released its first video model, Dream Machine, and that same story evolved into the first teaser for "Meet Your Maker". Now, revisiting that world again with Dreamina AI Seedance 2.0 as a fast-paced vignette scored with that very same track. In 2066, giant mechanical robots clash with monstrous kaiju in Neo Tokyo, as an elite team of pilots fights to protect humanity from extinction. Deeply inspired by the ethos and punk rock attitude of late ’70s and ’80s anime (Daitarn 3, Daltanius, Mazinkaiser Z) this piece is a tribute to a substantial part of my childhood. But it’s also a clear example of how technology doesn’t just enable world-building, it enables new formats. Is it a vignette? Opening titles? Music video? Micro-episodic content? The answer is yes.
