Water scarcity has led indigenous plant species to develop mobility mechanisms in order to survive. These species, popularly known in Shelter as "land seafood", are an essential source of protein for the most impoverished population and have an important cultural value in the community, which sees them as a metaphor for its own resilience. They are currently being developed commercially as a vegan alternative for mass consumption.

Shelter is an outcast community founded 120 years ago in the Arizona desert by a caravan of nomadic Asian and Mexican miners. They gradually mixed with the indigenous communities and developed a unique culture and aesthetic reminiscent of cargo cults –until lithium was found under their land. An ongoing fictional, AI ethnography project.
