My latest AI video work is the 1st single of the incredible Dark Southern Gothic Country artist "Night Spirits" upcoming album "And The Earth Sang Black..." The songs evocative nature lends itself very well to my personal aesthetic and field of interest - drawing from Cinema, Cormac McCarthy's incredible writing and the growing up with a dad playing Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and countless other Country legends. "Chanel - The Camellia Collection" is a conceptual and educational project made for the purpose of exploring AI & advertising in a img2video context. It has no official affiliation with Chanel. The piece is centered around the white camellia flower, which is a signature symbol for Chanel, embodying elegance, purity, and timeless beauty. Introduced by Coco Chanel in the 1920s, the flower became a personal and brand emblem. Coco was drawn to the camellia's simplicity, lack of scent, and perfect symmetry. It also symbolized rebellion against convention, as camellias were often worn by dandies and non-conformists. Chanel's choice of the white camellia, associated with purity and perseverance in Asian cultures, reflects the brand's ethos of understated luxury and strength. During 2024 I had the huge privilege to work as the AI Artist on a series of 5 Ballantines Whiskey ADs for the Polish Market (one of the key EU markets where Ballantine's has seen strong double-digit growth & success) This was our first endeavor into a new hybrid & crossover way of filming AD's - as my role as the AI Artist was to craft very specific photorealistic, believable and lifelike environments and backgrounds. The process was: ✅ The AI backgrounds, consisting of images and videos in crisp 4K resolution, were displayed on enormous LED screens. ✅ A camera was positioned about 3.5 to 4 meters from the LED screen, allowing for natural separation between the foreground and background. This distance helped blur the pixels on the screen. Extensive adjustments were made to ensure the perspective aligned with the background angles, making them appear more realistic. ✅ Great care was taken in casting local talent and selecting appropriate props, which were placed in front of the LED screens. ✅ The lighting used to illuminate the actors and props was carefully matched to each background, allowing them to blend seamlessly and believably. ✅ A total of five ads were filmed, featuring real actors, real products, and real props, all set against AI-crafted backgrounds of specific Polish locations such as cityscapes, forest festivals, cabins, old apartments, a bar in Ballantine's brand colours, gaming arenas, and more. This approach allowed us to "visit" places that would have been beyond the project's budget and scope. ✅ Lastly, meticulous attention and care were devoted to post-production. The editing and motion design are crisp and polished. This is a very interesting new way of bringing AI into a part of the process, allowing the technology to solve problems that would otherwise have 1) Cost of a lot of money & 2) Taken a lot of time. Directed by the talented Priit Palumaa whose vision & treatment really took this one to the the next level.
