John Martin
@johnmartin
I’m John Martin, an AI filmmaker, producer, and digital storyteller exploring how 3D production and generative AI can work together to create more intentional, cinematic stories.
My approach combines traditional filmmaking principles with emerging AI tools, using 3D to establish characters, performances, cameras, environments, and visual direction before moving into generative image and video production. My workflows bring together Reallusion Character Creator, iClone and AI Studio with tools such as Nano Banana, Seedance, ChatGPT, and Adobe Premiere Pro.
A major focus of my work is solving the practical challenges of AI filmmaking: character consistency, shot continuity, camera direction, performance, visual storytelling, and maintaining creative control across an entire sequence rather than generating isolated shots.
My short film RUS-T is an example of this approach, beginning with a 3D character created in Character Creator and developing into an AI-driven production through AI Studio, generative image and video tools, and traditional post production.
I’ve spent more than two decades working with real-time animation, digital humans, performance capture, and emerging production technologies at Reallusion, while continuing to experiment as an independent filmmaker.
This channel is where I share the films, experiments, workflows, and discoveries that come from figuring out what AI filmmaking can become.

RUS-T Behind the Scenes | 3D to AI Workflow
John Martin
Go behind the scenes of RUS-T and see how I combined traditional 3D production with generative AI to create the film.
In this breakdown, I take you through the complete 3D-to-AI workflow behind RUS-T, beginning with the creation of the RUS-T character in Reallusion Character Creator and transforming that 3D character into a reusable AI Actor.
From there, I show how iClone became the foundation for directing shots before AI generation. I used 3D to establish character placement, poses, camera angles, composition, environments, and scene layout, giving me greater control over what I wanted from each shot.
Those 3D setups then moved into Reallusion AI Studio, where the RUS-T AI Actor and visual references helped maintain character and shot continuity throughout production.
The 3D to AI workflow:
Character Creator → RUS-T 3D Actor
iClone → Scene Layout, Camera, Posing & Previsualization
AI Studio → 3D-to-AI Production & AI Actor Continuity
Nano Banana → Image Generation & Visual Development
Seedance → AI Video Generation
Adobe Premiere Pro → Editing & Final Production
RUS-T began as an experiment in connecting the control of 3D production with the creative possibilities of generative AI. Instead of relying entirely on prompting and hoping for the right result, the 3D-to-AI workflow gave me a way to direct the shot first and then use AI to take it further.
This Behind the Scenes video shows how that process evolved into the workflow used to make the film.
RUS-T is an AI sci-fi short film written and produced by John C Martin II.

Mars was supposed to be another mission.
Until everyone left.
Abandoned at a remote outpost, RUS-T is surrounded by silence, an empty landscape, and the growing realization that he was never meant to leave with the others.
There are no answers. No rescue. Only a mission that must still be completed and the unsettling question of why he was left behind.
As the truth begins to surface, RUS-T faces something he was never programmed to understand.
Betrayal.
RUS-T is an AI sci fi short film by John C Martin II about duty, abandonment, and survival at the edge of an unknown future.
They left him behind.
They never expected what would happen next.
I created RUS-T over four months as both a film and an exploration of where AI filmmaking is heading. I wanted to see how far I could push a workflow where I was still making the filmmaking decisions, designing the character, staging scenes, choosing cameras, directing motion, shaping performances, and then using generative AI to take those ideas further.
RUS-T began as a 3D character in Reallusion Character Creator. From there, I used iClone for scene planning, animation, cameras, then Reallusion AI Studio to bring those ideas into generative production. Nano Banana was used for image generation, Seedance 2.0 for video, and Adobe Premiere Pro for the final edit.

RUS-T is an AI sci fi short film about duty, betrayal, survival, and what happens when a machine begins to question its purpose.
RUS-T has one job. Complete the mission.
Stationed alone at a remote outpost on Mars, he has spent his existence following orders and doing exactly what he was designed to do. But when he discovers that his crew is gone and his captain has abandoned him, everything he understands about his mission begins to unravel.
What starts as another day on the job becomes a fight for survival across the Martian landscape, and a journey that forces RUS-T to make decisions he was never designed to make.
